Georgia Fighting Disrupts Oil Exports

World oil prices rebounded in today’s (Monday’s) trading after fighting between Russia and Georgia disrupted crude exports from the Caspian region. The price of a barrel of oil for future delivery rose nearly two dollars to nearly 117 dollars a barrel in New York trading.

Georgia does not produce oil, but is a transit point for crude exports from Azerbaijan.Today’s (Monday’s) price spike reverses weeks of declining oil prices as demand fell when high prices forced consumers to cut consumption.
