A new report predicts that inflation will ease in the world’s larger economies this year, but economic activity will remain weak. Those are the key findings of a report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

OECD officials said today (Tuesday) that the costs of key commodities such as oil and food appear to be stabilizing, which could lower inflation rates and boost consumer confidence. But the report warns it is difficult to make long-term predictions about the world’s major economies.

The Paris-based agency says the economies of the Group of Seven leading industrial nations (the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada) will grow an average of about one-point-four percent this year. However, the report warns that the British economy may be entering a recession, and that growth for most other European countries will remain flat.

It says the U.S. economy will grow a bit faster than the G-7 average, while Japan’s economic growth will be slower.
