U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe to honor a power-sharing deal with the opposition, saying Mr. Mugabe should “look to the future of his country.” Speaking in Geneva Friday, the U.N. chief said the people of Zimbabwe have suffered too much and too long from political turmoil now coupled with serious humanitarian tragedies.
The United Nations estimates nearly 800 people have died and nearly 17-thousand are infected from an ongoing cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. The health crisis comes amid failure to implement the post-election power-sharing deal, crumbling infrastructure and hyperinflation. Mr. Ban urged President Mugabe to, in his words, “leave his legacy in a positive way.”
