Greek police say about 20 youths broke the windows of the French Institute, a French cultural and language center, in Athens Friday as protests continue nearly two weeks after police shot and killed a teenager. Officials say no injuries were reported.
The main trade unions have organized separate rallies outside parliament in the Greek capital Friday to protest the government’s 2009 budget. About seven-thousand protesters marched Thursday through central Athens. Hundreds later broke off from the rally and began hurling rocks and firebombs at police, who retaliated with tear gas to disperse the crows. Athens police said eight people were arrested during Thursday’s violence.
