Israel is pressing ahead with its military offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, amid calls of revenge from the Palestinian militant group for the killing of one of its top leaders. Palestinian medical officials say one of the air strikes killed three children playing on a street in Gaza. The Israeli offensive is aimed at stopping Hamas gunmen from firing rockets at Israel, but has not halted such attacks. A rocket launched today hit an apartment building in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. No casualties were reported. Hamas also vowed revenge after an Israeli air strike Thursday killed cleric Nizar Rayyan, the first senior leader of the Palestinian militant group to die in the offensive.
