U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in Kenya, her first stop on a seven-nation tour of Africa.

The secretary of state’s plane landed in Nairobi Tuesday. Her 11-day trip is designed to show that Africa is a priority in the foreign policy of the Obama administration.

On Wednesday, Secretary Clinton is to address a Nairobi forum that seeks to boost U.S. trade with about 40 African states.

Washington granted duty-free and quota-free access to many sub-Saharan African imports in 2000 under the U.S. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

Clinton also will meet Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga. She is expected to urge the two former rivals to speed up reconciliation by building on a 2008 power-sharing deal that ended a wave of violence sparked by a disputed 2007 election.
