Military officials in Russia say two Russian attack submarines that were spotted off the United States east coast are part of regular patrols.Officials said Wednesday the patrols were a “normal” practice and suggested that U.S. submarines also patrol near Russia.
U.S. defense officials said Tuesday the two nuclear-powered submarines were spotted in international waters about 320 kilometers off the coast. A statement from the U.S. Northern Command said they had been monitoring the submarines for several days.
U.S. officials also said the submarines had done nothing to provoke concern and were free to navigate international waters as recognized by international law.
