U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the fourth leg of her seven-nation Africa tour.
In Congo, Secretary Clinton is scheduled to visit a clinic set up by retired U.S. professional basketball star Dikembe Mutombo. She will meet with President Joseph Kabila in restive North Kivu province.
Earlier Monday, Clinton wrapped up a stop in Angola, where she met with President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
Ahead of the meeting, Clinton urged Angola to hold long-awaited presidential elections. Angola has not had a presidential election since 1992, and Mr. dos Santos has been the country’s leader for nearly 30 years.
The southern African country is scheduled to hold a presidential vote this year but organizers have said they may need more time.
While in the Angolan capital, Luanda, Clinton also signed an agreement to increase U.S. funding to fight AIDS in Angola by $10 million.
