与过去相比，东盟现在采取了比较强硬的立场，要求缅甸释放昂山素季。缅甸是东盟10国区域组织的一个成员国，而东盟历来采取不干涉成员国内政的政策。
截至现在，东盟已经对缅甸军政领导人决定延长对昂山素季的软禁表示”十分失望”。这个月，缅甸的一个军事法庭判决对昂山素季延长软禁18个月。
Senior officials from the Association of South Asian Nations agreed Friday to urge regional foreign ministers to appeal to Burma for the release of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.Indonesia’s delegate told Reuters news service “we need to convey our legitimate concerns” and that the foreign ministers would decide whether a letter or joint statement was most appropriate.
Asking for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi would be a stronger stand than ASEAN has been willing to take in the past.Burma is a member of the 10-nation regional bloc, which has a policy of non-interference in member state’s domestic affairs.
To date, ASEAN has expressed “deep disappointment” with Burma’s military rulers for extending Aung San Suu Kyi’s house arrest.A military court in Burma this month sentenced Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace laureate, to an additional 18 months of house arrest.
