A vintage train has left Prague for London, as part of commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the evacuation of Jewish children from Czechoslovakia to Britain during World War Two.

London stockbroker Nicolas Winton arranged the train transfers that saved 669 mostly Jewish children from being sent to Nazi concentration camps.

Winton, who is now 100 years old, is expected to meet the train when it arrives in Britain Friday. Some of the passengers are people he helped evacuate in 1939.

Before the train’s departure Tuesday, participants unveiled a statue of Winton at Prague’s central train station.
