津巴布韦国营报纸说,津巴布韦和中国签署了一项80亿美元的投资协议。

Zimbabwe’s state-run newspaper says the government has signed an $8 billion investment deal with China.

The Herald reports that under the deal, a Chinese-Angolan venture called China Sonangol will invest in Zimbabwe’s mining, energy and housing industries.

The report says the deal is the largest Zimbabwe has entered since creation of the country’s power-sharing government in February.Chinese officials have not confirmed the report.

President Robert Mugabe has pursued stronger relations with China in recent years as relations with the West turned hostile.Britain and the United States have imposed sanctions on Mr. Mugabe and his close associates, accusing them of corruption, human rights violations, and enacting policies that ruined the country’s economy.
