Foreign companies and individuals appear to be betting on China’s economic recovery, more than doubling their investments in China last month.A Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman (Yao Jian) said Friday that foreign direct investment rose to $12.1 billion in December, a 103 percent over the same month last year.China said it is the fifth consecutive month that foreign investment increased.Officials said most of the money was invested in manufacturing and the service sector.
Despite the increase, foreign investment in China still fell 2.6 percent for 2009.Earlier this month, China announced it overtook the United States as the world’s largest market for automobiles. Officials also said the country overtook Germany as the world’s top exporter.China is also the world’s top holder of foreign currencies, and new data released Friday showed it reserves surged to a record level.
