The United Nations says East and South Asia will lead a mild recovery in the global economy in 2010.The world body makes the prediction in its annual economic report, issued Tuesday in Bangkok. The report says the global economy should experience 2.4 percent growth this year, if supportive policies continue. But the U.N. says the global economy could go through another slump if governments withdraw stimulus measures too early.
East Asia is expected to see its gross domestic product rise this year by 6.7 percent, the highest in the world, followed by South Asia’s 5.5 percent.A senior economist for the U.N. says both regions have weathered the crisis better than developed nations.
Developing nation economies are expected to grow at a pace of 5.3 percent. However, the U.N. says the financial crisis pushed people in developing Asia and Africa into jobs with no social protection, and there are more working poor around the world.
