Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Monday he is ready for face-to-face talks with U.S. President Barack Obama.

Mr. Ahmadinejad said the two presidents could offer solutions for global issues and “see whose solutions are better.” He said such talks would be held in front of the media.

The U.S. has rejected such overtures in the past. The U.S. accuses Tehran of seeking to build a nuclear weapon, a claim Iran denies, and wants formal diplomacy centered on Iran’s disputed nuclear program.

The Iranian president said he hopes to be in the United States for the U.N. General Assembly meeting, which begins in September.

He made the comments in an address to Iranian expatriates in Tehran.
