The chief U.S. envoy to the North Korean nuclear negotiations says it is unlikely the stalled talks will resume in the near future.U.S. Ambassador Stephen Bosworth met with reporters in Tokyo Wednesday shortly before heading to Beijing. Bosworth said there is no reason to expect a flurry of diplomatic activity in the next few weeks. He said the talks will not restart until there is evidence of “specific and concrete ” actions by Pyongyang that indicate it is serious about negotiations.

North Korea withdrew from the talks last year after the United Nations condemned it for a test-launch of a long-range missile, followed by a test of a nuclear weapon. The U.N. later imposed sanctions on Pyongyang for the tests.

Bosworth says the sanctions will remain in place until North Korea returns to the six-party talks. He said the Obama administration has not ruled out direct talks with the regime.
