Hong Kong says it has confirmed East Asia’s first case of the new strain of the swine flu H1N1 virus. Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Donald Tsang announced Friday that a Mexican traveler is infected with the virus. Tsang said the man arrived in the territory on Thursday on a flight from Mexico with a stopover in Shanghai.
Japan reported its first suspected case Thursday, but officials announced Friday that the 17-year-old student has tested negative for H1N1.
South Korea on Friday said it has two more probable cases of swine flu, raising its total to three.
In Oceania, New Zealand on Friday raised its number of confirmed cases to four with 12 more probable infections and 116 suspected.
