South Korean intelligence officials say this week’s cyber attacks on Web sites in that country and the United States originated in more than a dozen nations.
Intelligence officials briefed lawmakers Thursday about their findings in the investigation of the cyber attacks, which affected a number of Web sites, including the South Korean Defense Ministry, Intelligence Service and at least one Korean bank.
Intelligence officials say the attackers utilized 86 Internet Protocol (IP) addresses across 16 different nations, including South Korea, Japan, China and the United States.
North Korea, which South Korean intelligence services had accused of being behind the cyber attacks, was not part of the list.
The South Korean news agency Yonhap cited government and industry officials as saying that the virus that has infected tens of thousands of computers appears to be programmed to automatically delete itself on Friday.
