博斯沃思说,他没有和北韩领导人金正日见面。但他会见了北韩第一副外相姜锡柱。姜锡柱被视为是北韩核外交的主要人物。博斯沃思还同北韩首席核谈判人员金桂冠举行会谈。
The U.S. envoy for North Korea says he had candid talks with officials in Pyongyang and that they have a “common understanding” to resume stalled international nuclear discussions.Stephen Bosworth wrapped up his three-day trip to the North Korean capital on Thursday. His trip was the first high-level contact between Washington and Pyongyang since President Barack Obama took office in January.
Speaking with reporters in Seoul Thursday, Bosworth chracterized the discussions as “exploratory talks” rather than negotiations. He said the talks were “very useful,” but also said he did not gain Pyongyang’s firm commitment to return to talks on ending its nuclear weapons programs.
Bosworth said he did not meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. Instead, he met with North Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Kang Sok Ju, the man regarded as the mastermind of the North’s nuclear diplomacy.He also met with the North’s top nuclear negotiator Kim Kye Kwan
