Executives from some of the biggest U.S. banks are meeting with President Barack Obama, who is expected to urge them to make more loans to consumers and small businesses.

Mr. Obama has been critical of banks that got government help to survive the financial crisis, saying they have not done enough to help the economy in return.

He also is expected to ask the banks to stop trying to block efforts to reform the financial practices that some experts blame for sparking the financial crisis.

Officials representing the banking industry say the executives may offer some different ways to solve financial and economic problems.

Meanwhile, banking giant Citigroup announced Monday it is ready to repay $20 billion in emergency government loans.
