New economic reports from China and Indonesia suggest the two nations are leading Asia’s recovery from the global economic crisis.

China says its exports rose 21 percent in January from the same period a year ago, an improvement from growth of 17.7 percent in December.Officials say the latest export surge is largely due to weak numbers from January 2009, when global demand for Chinese products was lower.

Indonesia says its economy grew 4.5 percent in 2009, down from 6.1 percent a year earlier, but still better than the government had expected.Officials and experts say economic growth sped up in the last quarter of 2009, fueled by resilient consumer demand and government stimulus spending on infrastructure projects. They say Indonesia’s economy also benefitted from a stable domestic political climate.
