Marking World Food Day Friday at FAO headquarters in Rome, officials said some 925 million people around the world live in a state of chronic hunger and malnutrition, and that food production will have to increase by 70 percent to meet their needs.FAO Director Jacques Diouf said the imbalance was the result of the world under investing in agriculture in developing countries.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame, speaking in Rome on Friday, called on governments to redouble their efforts to halve world hunger by 2015.A recent report by the FAO says 22 countries are facing long-standing hunger crises.
