Lebanon’s prime minister has said he was wrong to accuse Syria in the murder of his father.
London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq al-Awsat published Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri’s comments Monday, quoting him saying the accusations were a political action.
His father, the late prime minister Rafik Hariri, was killed in a massive 2005 bombing in Beirut.
Syria was forced to withdraw its troops from Lebanon following the bombing, ending a nearly 30-year presence.
Damascus has denied allegations by U.N. investigators that it had a role in the assassination.
Mr. Hariri has since worked to repair relations with Syria, including making several trips to Damascus in the past year.
